A legendary reference for sound professionals, it played a key role in the heyday of ‘crooners’, who appreciated its particularly natural, warm sound.
However, as with most ‘ribbon’ equipment, its very high price, bulky size and relative fragility inevitably led to its replacement by equipment that was much more practical and easy to use.
Only a few purists continued to use them, unable to bring themselves to sacrifice sound for ease of use…
